Interruptions is a series of New York City subway ad interventions that began in Summer 2017. It seeks to interrupt the language of advertising with social/political commentary. These interventions are temporary, and are documented to live on Instagram @JonathanAllenStudio. 'Interruption 388' was installed in 2025 in Chambers Street subway station, in Lower Manhattan. 'Interruption 388 (Expat Series)' replicates this installations' painting, incorporating James Baldwin's text 'The American sense of reality is dictated by what Americans are trying to avoid' in a new, unique artwork for PASTE, PRESENT, FUTURE.
