"FOAMO" Mixed media assemblage by SHUBY

FOAMO started life as a bear biscuit jar, which SHUBY repainted during lockdown with the word “Bollox” and a superhero mask. After a studio visit, co-curator Matt Littler gave SHUBY some wrestling figures as inspiration for Wrestle Room. SHUBY reimagined them bursting out of the top of the jar in expanding foam, joined by a riot of other characters and objects gathered from around the studio.

The work also sits alongside SHUBY’s recent series of embellished charity shop finds: objects given new stories and, often, a mystical character.
