Flowing underground, flowing through my mind is part of a series Eve Obrochta is currently working on using acrylics, spray paint and Posca pens. Before starting a painting, the artist often takes photos from daily life, exploring the complexities of human existence in relation to identity, migration and representation.
In this image, the composition is built from two layers, with the corresponding parts connected by lines (or corridors). The body parts with chunks of office blocks in the top left corner draw the viewer's eye first. Those running legs are engulfed by the blocks and buildings that surround us every day. It's a portrait of the modern human, living a busy life, constantly trying to get somewhere on time or get through a routine as quickly as possible, to the sound of a voice reaching from the background.
The painting shows a man consumed by work and never-ending commuting, slowly forgetting his soul and his own needs, sitting at the edge of the Embankment line with a head like a rock. It's a metaphor for a person living among us. Is she stuck in a loop or in her own dream?
