“Princess Perfect” from the Wrestlers Set, Limited Edition Screenprint by Sir Peter Blake
Blonde, blue-eyed and wearing a jewelled crown, Princess Perfect fights for Britain under the Union Jack, with an elaborate devotional tattoo across her chest. She belongs to a long line of Blake’s women wrestlers that goes back to his 1968 screenprint Babe Rainbow. The tattoo also links her to the tattooed figures Blake showed alongside his wrestlers in Portraits and People at Waddington Custot in 2015, where this set of ten fictional fighters began.
Part beauty queen, part bruiser, she’s Blake’s pop art humour at its best.
Artist Sir Peter Blake
Medium Silkscreen with glazes on paper
Artwork Size 29.6 (W) X 39.5cm (L)
